Introduction to the band :- 'Altar of Plagues' is an Irish ambient/post/progressive black metal band. They are a four-piece and got recognition through their EPs and Demos. They released their first studio album in April 2009 on Profound Lore Records.
White Tomb :- Their debut album, impressed me quite a bit with their ambient rhythms and harsh vocals. The album is divided into two titles - 'Earth' and 'Through the Collapse' with two songs under each titles. Their first track under Earth, 'As a womb' is a mixture of heavy drumming interspersed harsh vocals and heavy rhythms in between. I would describe it as 12minutes of pure, unadulterated progressive black metal. Their second track 'As a furnace' is pretty much a mixture of Burzum + Agalloch in one track, with the ambience of Burzum and heaviness of Agalloch, it makes my favorite track on the album. The next two tracks under 'Through The Collapse' are very similar. They are heavy and raw with obscure-sounding vocals in between tracks. This album is a great black metal package, with some great sounds and vocals.
I would totally recommend this one for all Black Metal loving fans out there !
Rating :- 4/5
